Accessibility

Built to be usable by everyone.

We want this site to work for all visitors, including people who use assistive technology. Here's where we stand — and how to reach us if something gets in your way.

Our commitment

ROC Affordable Housing Corporation is committed to making this website accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of ability or technology. Accessibility is part of how we think about housing itself, and we extend that to how we communicate.

The standard we aim for

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. This is the benchmark referenced by U.S. accessibility laws, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act for organizations that receive federal financial assistance. We treat it as our target whether or not it is strictly required of us.

What we've done

  • Semantic, structured HTML with clear headings and landmarks
  • A "skip to main content" link for keyboard users
  • Visible keyboard focus indicators on links, buttons, and form fields
  • Labels on every form field, with required fields marked in text
  • Descriptive alternative text on images and renderings
  • A color palette and type chosen for readable contrast, plus a light/dark mode
  • A responsive layout that works on phones, tablets, and desktops, and reflows when text is enlarged

Known limitations

We're honest about where we're still improving:

  • Our interactive service-area map (built on a third-party mapping tool) can be difficult to use with a keyboard or screen reader. For that reason, our service area is also described in plain text on the About and What We Do pages, so the same information is available without the map.
  • Some embedded third-party components may not yet fully conform.

We are working toward full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance over time, and we review accessibility as we update the site.
